It’s an age-old dilemma for folks drawn to outdoor activities in and around water. How do you keep your gear dry and secure, but also easy to get to when you need it? The new Highwater Hitchhiker XL Black by Bote may be the answer you are searching for.

It’s a straightforward pack made with waterproof nylon. The zipper can feel a bit sticky at times, but that means it’s working, creating a solid waterproof seal. Take the time to make sure it’s zipped closed completely before splashing around.

The zipper opens the main and only compartment measuring 8.07″ x 4.72″ x 2.1″. (Capacity is 1.2 L.) Inside, there’s a small side pocket handy for keeping things like keys, driver’s license, or credit card securely in place.

The pocket also holds a small disc about the size of a silver dollar, but thicker. The disc makes the Hitchhiker XL compatible with Bote’s MAGNEPOD™ system, allowing you to secure it to other Bote’s products with MAGNEPOD™ attachment points. But if this is your first purchase from the brand and you won’t be using the system, the disc is easily removed.

Biking with BOTE’s Highwater Hitchhiker XL Crossbody Bag

The crossbody bag can be worn slung over a shoulder or around the waist. In my experience, the latter is the most comfortable. When the carry strap is new, it’s stiff and I’ve found it can rub against my neck. It’s not painful, just a bit annoying. I suspect with more time and use the strap will soften and it won’t be an issue.

The Hitchhiker XL is nearly identical to Bote’s original Highwater Hitchhiker – it’s just a bit bigger.

But if you think you might need a pack with even more storage space than the Hitchhiker XL, it’s worth taking a look at the Bote Highwater Belt Pack. It’s a bit bulkier, but along with more pockets, it sports more bells and whistles including MOLLE loops, cam straps, and a D-Ring.

Bote’s Highwater Hitchhiker XL crossbody bag is available in four colors: black, seafoam, Verge Camo, and Fischer Topwater. Cost is $95 on Bote’s website.
