A good night’s sleep makes everything better. But when you’re traveling, getting comfortable in even the most luxe hotel room can sometimes be tricky.

So many factors are out of your control. From street noise and unwanted light to ventilation systems and neighbors watching their favorite movie at maximum volume.

Yogasleep’s Travel Mini Portable Sound Machine

In an attempt to lessen those restless nights on the road, I started experimenting with Yogasleep’s Travel Mini Portable Sound Machine. I’d never used a sound machine before; from learning how to operate the machine to experimenting with where in the room to put it, it was all new to me.

Operating the device is straightforward. Touchpoints with self-explanatory icons indicate how to turn the sound machine on and off, adjust the brightness of the built-in nightlight, and increase or decrease volume. There are a half-dozen soundtrack options to choose from, including white and brown noise, dohm (a signature sound), surf, stream, and thunderstorm. Operating instructions offer tips on where to place the sound machine for optimum results.

As its name implies, the Travel Mini is small and lightweight. (Its weight isn’t listed on the website, but per my home kitchen scale, it comes in at just 2.5 ounces.)  The unit easily fits in the palm of your hand as well as a carry-on bag or backpack.

Rechargeable via a micro USB charge port, a charge indicator light that’s visible when the unit is turned on indicates when it’s time to plug in.

Box for Yogasleep’s Travel Mini Portable Sound MachineAccording to the Yogasleep website, the length of time the Travel Mini will operate on a full charge depends on the volume selected by the user.  Higher volumes reportedly require more battery usage and drain the unit’s power faster. I found that a full charge lasted for three nights of use.

The Yogasleep Travel Mini Portable Sound Machine is available in white. Cost is $27.99 on the Yogasleep website. A USB cord is included. An optional USB power adapter is $13.99.
