Travel clothing doesn’t always have to look like you’re going on safari. When your travels take you to the city, you may not want to like you just finished a hike, so why not choose a coat that’s stylish and keeps you warm?

The Nau Off the Grid Trench Coat is my choice for not only those trips this season, but for use at home, too.

The outer shell is made from 100 percent recycled polyester, while the inner shell is made from 51 percent recycled polyester and 49 percent wool.

Nau prefers to source and often create fabrics that set a new standard for quality, performance, and sustainability, and using recycled polyester ensures a significant decrease in petroleum use, less energy consumption, and a lower carbon footprint overall.

The coat’s quilted exterior both looks good and resists wrinkles, which is always a plus when traveling. It’s also easy to pack away in your carry-on, so that you’ve got a nice, warm coat when you arrive in your destination.

The wool neck and arms are insulated with high-loft fleece backing to keep the chill away, and the high collar means you don’t have to bring along a scarf if you don’t want to.

The covered 2-way reverse DWR front zip has an internal wind flap to prevent bursts of wine getting through to your bones.

Two front hand pockets are super deep—enough to carry everything you need without bulking out. One of those pockets also has a security zip pocket, so you can stash away the most important items, like cash and cards.

When the coat gets dirty, just toss it in the washing machine (but first, zip it closed so that the zipper doesn’t snag the quilted stitching) and then line dry.

The Nau Off the Grid Trench Coat comes in caviar (black) and peat (gray-green), and lists for $298 on the Nau site.
