If you’re not familiar with Toad & Co, formally Horny Toad, this brand has been making quality outdoor women’s wear for years.

The company makes effort to be sustainable and many pieces are organic.

I’ve yet to try anything from Toad & Co that’s not fun, stylish, and practical for adventure travel.

The women’s Breckenridge Parka is such a fun jacket. I’ve never seen anything quite like it before, and every time I wear it, I get compliments.

People want to try it on, touch it, and look at it. Why?

It’s a puffy-flannel hybrid, combining the best of these worlds: you get the weight and feel of wool, and the warmth of the technical puffy.

On the top you get a blown-in insulation layer for abrasion resistance, with the DWR water repellent finish you’d expect of a technical jacket.

Plus, there are plenty of pockets throughout, including stash pockets and zippered hidden pockets.

The wool is Italian and 49% recycled, and yes, the jacket has some heft to it.

It feels more significant than your average puffy, so don’t expect that featherlight feel.

Instead, this is the jacket to grab when you want some weight, and the added protection against the elements.

The wool panel extends almost all across the torso, and I’ve found this enables me to wear a ‘puffy’ even in sleet or drizzle, because the wool really protects the jacket.

The Breckenridge Parka works well as a late fall (chilly weather) coat or a layer in extreme cold environments.

I’ve worn it here in Oregon all fall, and plan to bring it along for winter trips for apres-ski evenings out.

While not as packable as a true puffy jacket, it folds down pretty flat in carry-on bags or backpacks.

It comes in XS-XL in two color combinations. You can get dark graphite, which is a gorgeous peacock blue puffy/gray flannel combination (I’m partial to this one) or mahogany, which is a rich red flannel with space gray puffy.

Note that the Breckenridge does not have a hood, and the collar is about chin-length. Pick it up at Toad & Co for $229, or look for the Breckenridge on Amazon, where I’ve seen it for a bit less.
