I’m dreaming about warm summer days ahead, but even when traveling to a sunny destination, I always pack some key layers to prevent chilly moments. Whether it’s a rainy day, cool night, or a particularly nippy airplane flight, I’ve become a fan of Patagonia’s collection of R1® Thermal Fleece.
There are an assortment of women’s and men’s offerings in the line, but my current favorites are the Women’s R1® Thermal Pullover Hoody and Women’s R1® Thermal Bottoms.
The why is simple. The soft and breathable fleece inside is comfortable and cozy while the woven exterior fabric does a great job keeping weather including heavy mist, light rain, and light wind, at bay.
The hoody and bottoms both feature low-profile, zippered pockets, a design perk that seems all-to-often forgotten in women’s clothing. The hoody fit is loose enough to make it comfortable, but not sloppy; I also appreciate that the back hem is longer than the front, and thus provides more coverage. The bottoms are fitted but not tight.
Perfect for travel, both fold easily and compactly and there are no worries about wrinkles.
I throw both in the washing machine without concern. Though I always aim to hang them to dry, they’ve both wound up in the dryer more than once and I haven’t had any issues.
Patagonia’s Women’s R1® Thermal Pullover Hoody and Bottoms are offered in a variety of colors; check online for updates. Cost is $179 and $149 respectively on the Patagonia website.
