A comfy chair has the power to make just about everything better. Cheering on your kids at a sporting event, chatting at the neighborhood block party, and of course, camping trips. My REI Co-op Wonderland Chair always comes car camping with me—it’s a favorite in my house, and my husband often tries to claim it as his own—but it’s big and heavy. If you’re searching for a lightweight chair, the limited-edition by On, BEAMS, and REI Co-op should be on your radar.

Flexlight Camp Chair by On, BEAMS, and REI Co-op

Take-It-Anywhere Size Chair

On the REI Co-op website, the Flexlight Camp Chair description touts its “take-it-anywhere size.” It’s an accurate description, as it weighs just 1 lb. 11oz. Unfolded, the chair measures 25 x 20 x 20 (H x W x D) inches; once folded, it drops to just 4.5 x 15 inches.

The scoop-style chair is supported by an aluminum frame that easily folds and unfolds thanks to pull loops and large pole pockets. The four-leg design aims to provide stability, and it does a decent job.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that this isn’t a lounge chair. I feel comfortable and secure when my legs are bent directly in front of me and when they are stretched out. But you have to be careful not to lean back too far. That temptation to recline could cause you to tumble backward. If you want a chair with more leeway to lean back, you’ll want to stick with a sturdier option like the Wonderland Chair.

Good to Know

The chair has a 250-pound weight capacity, and the seat height is 11 inches. It comes with a drawstring bag for easy storage. The ripstop polyester seat has a durable water repellent (DWR) finish and an eye-catching design that pays homage to three of the world’s better-known peaks, including the Matterhorn in Switzerland, where On is based; Mount Fuji in Japan, where BEAMS is based; and last but not least, Mount Rainier in Washington state, where REI Co-op is based.

Except for the color and mountain design, the Flexlight Camp Chair by On, BEAMS, and REI Co-op appears to be identical to Flexlite Camp Chair marketed solely by REI Co-op. The latter is available in multiple colors. You can easily compare the two on the REI Co-op website.

The Flexlight Camp Chair is just one piece in a diverse collection that ranges from footwear and apparel to camping gear. The three-way collaboration includes everything from waterproof hiking boots and jackets to tents and sleeping bags.

The Flexlight Camp Chair is only available in the color Spruce. Cost is $79.95 on the REI Co-op website.
