Looking for a camping lantern powerful enough to light up more than a picnic table? The telescoping Devos LightRanger 2000 is aimed at campers, overlanders, and group-site travelers who want broad area lighting, quick setup, and more flexibility than a handheld lantern can offer.

In this review, I focus on the features that matter most for real campsite use: brightness, setup speed, packability, and whether the tall tripod design justifies its space in a larger camping gear loadout.
Light Up The Night
The most notable attribute is its output — a robust 2000 lumens. During a recent camping excursion in Northern California, the LightRanger 2000 provided more than enough light for the entire campsite, significantly simplifying setup and settling in after sunset.
Featuring an extendable mast and easy-to-use tripod, the LED light extends to a whopping 10 feet tall, dispersing light in a way traditional hand-held lanterns can’t. (Ground stakes, for use in windy conditions, conveniently store in the tripod feet.) According to Devos, the light covers an 80-foot diameter area; I didn’t pull out a tape measure, but you get the idea.

The LightRanger 2000 also has a built-in amber light option that helps lure bugs away from camp as well as a red light option for stargazing enthusiasts.
Those willing to add another app to their phone, (It’s free.) can control the rechargeable light from a distance; the ability to turn the light on or off as well as adjust a number of other settings from the comfort of your chair, or even better, your tent, is downright handy.
I also used the camping table attachment and LightRanger motion sensor adapter which allowed for a convenient s’mores assembly point and nicely illuminated late-night bathroom runs, respectively.
Lasting up to 45 hours, the battery life is notable. The included 67-watt lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery can also be used to charge other devices.
Not Just For Camping
I’m a big fan of products that do double duty. Even if you’re not a camper, you’ll find a plethora of uses for the Devos LightRanger 2000 such as neighborhood block parties, a garage work light, and a welcome light for those unexpected moments when the power goes out at home.

Cost for the Devos LightRanger 2000 is $249.99 on the Devos website. The price includes the rechargeable lantern, adjustable pole and tripod base, carry case, 30-watt AC wall adapter, and USB-C charging cord. The Devos LightRanger 2000 comes with a one-year warranty.
How It Compares To A Standard Camping Lantern
The LightRanger 2000 is not the lantern to pick if you only need a small light for a picnic table or tent entrance. Its advantage is wide-area campsite coverage and faster setup when you arrive after dark. That makes it a stronger fit for car camping and family sites than smaller lanterns that stay closer to ground level.
