The long commute to work can be draining to your personal devices, but since most cars have a power port, there is the hope of some form of power. Unfortunately, the voltage is not strong enough to load up a full battery in a short period of time.
That’s where the Brunton Torpedo Hybrid car pack amps up the power to an impressive 2600 mAH. It has the same plug-in 12v power socket capability that other car chargers have, but its torpedo shape is a surefire sign that this device packs a mean punch.
It has its own lithium battery to charge up your equipment, but that also can pose a threat when flying so be careful not to keep it in a checked bag. The secret recipe is that these lithium ion cells charge faster with a stronger ability to hold a charge for longer.
It features both a standard USB outlet and a micro USB outlet allowing two devices to charge simultaneously. The Torpedo can give your smart phone as much as two times a recharge in a couple of hours. What I liked most about this charger is that it is small and lightweight enough to carry when I fly. It is perfect for rental cars, plus it does not have those spiral cords that old-fashioned chargers used to have.
Torpedo works with any device that charges using a USB port and is handy even on planes. Yes, there are still a few planes flying out there with these 12v outlets so it makes a valuable addition to my briefcase on long flights.
It retails for about $35 on the Brunton website and makes a great gift for frequent travelers or those with long work commutes.
