Practical Travel Gear is an independent review site for luggage, clothing, footwear, and travel gadgets. We write about gear we have used on the road — what works, what does not, and what is worth packing.
The original blog was started by Tim Leffel on Blogger and became a standalone site in 2009. Chris and Leah Guill bought it in the summer of 2015 and still own it.
We do not post a review every weekday, and we do not publish traffic or ranking claims we cannot stand behind. The archive holds more than 1,500 reviews and 30 buyer’s guides. Current publishing is a smaller set of field-tested reviews and evergreen guides.
Who writes here
Dana Rebmann is a California-based freelance writer covering travel, the outdoors, and wine. She is one of the site’s most active current reviewers.
Jill Robinson is a freelance writer near Mavericks in California. She splits time between travel writing, running a kayak business, and testing gear outdoors. Her work has appeared in National Geographic, AFAR, Travel + Leisure, Condé Nast Traveler, Outside, and Sierra.
Chris Guill and Leah Guill own the site. Leah has been editor in chief; both still publish occasionally. They are based in Idaho.
