Under Armor Gear (UAG) has made lightweight composite cases for many years and their latest models live up to their gold standard. Available in 9 different colors and styles, these protective cases have an “impact-resistant soft core” and tough outer shell. Over-sized tactile buttons made turning on and off the screen, as well as controlling the volume a breeze. I’m pretty bad for dropping my phone, so the padding, screen surround and scratch resistant skid pads definitely earned their keep on my phone.
This company also really stands out for their iPad products. These cases meet military drop-test standards, as they are Mil Std 810G 516.6 certified. That means that the United States Department of Defense (DOD) has approved this test series to use this chamber test method that replicate the effects of the environment. Dropping an iPad tends to have a much higher percentage to damage, as opposed to an iPhone, but Under Armor Gear has succeeded in creating a case that protects my screen very well.
While I found that it did add noticeable weight to my iPad, I found that the risks of damaging it from a drop without a case much were very high given my track record with my phones. Also compared to other brands, the Under Armor Gear is significantly lighter than its competitors.
When I finally got to test out these products, I was pleased to find that the case did provide 360 degree protection from scratches and other damage, and that UAG had launched a line of cases for the MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro. The industrial style of this brand is very appealing and I can pack all of my apple products into my duffel bag with no fear of cracking or damage. These cases also have easy-access ports for the phone to re-charge or utilize it’s headset functions. While I have my iPhone virtually everywhere I go, there have been instances in the past where I could have used the full functionality of a MacBook. The Under Armor Gear cases provide an excellent solution so that I no longer have to walk on eggshells to ensure my laptop did not get dropped or otherwise damaged. The UAG line of Apple cases are not only extremely protective and durable, they also lend an air of stylish elegance that many other cases lack. I will definitely be using these cases during my off-the-grid excursions.
