Stay Warmer Longer with BARE’s Nixie Ultra Wetsuit

I’m a big fan of playing in the ocean. However, I am not a fan of being cold. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve gotten out of the water early because of serious chills. But I have an amazing new piece of equipment in my fight to stay warm—BARE’s Nixie Ultra Wetsuit.

Warmth in the Water

I was excited about Nixie’s potential before I even hit the water. Just looking at the suit when it arrived in the mail, I saw a plethora of features I believed would go a long way toward keeping me comfortable when diving and snorkeling.

I put the wetsuit to the test during a recent trip to Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort in Fiji . The GLIDESKIN collar acts like a gasket, creating a tight seal and preventing water from getting in through the neck and chest. The arms and legs have brilliant flip seals that prevent leakage. (The flip seal in the legs rests above your boots.) Zippers on the ankle and wrists didn’t leak, made the fit feel a bit more custom, and made getting in and out of a wetsuit easier.

Nixie Ultra Technology

Just like BARE's Exowear Hooded Vest , the Nixie uses OMNIRED Infrared Technology that “applies 13 thermo-reactive minerals woven into the suit’s fabric to convert outbound body heat into infrared energy and reflect it back to your body.” Said more simply, it keeps you warm.

Over the course of numerous days of snorkeling and diving, I didn’t get cold. Not once. That’s something I haven’t been able to say in a long time.

The suit is marketed to scuba divers, but I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to my snorkeling friends. During my time at Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort, I was lucky enough to dive and snorkel Namena Marine Reserve. Without doubt, the wetsuit lengthened my stretches of snorkeling time, and when sightings include the likes of sharks, turtles, clownfish and more, I’ll take every minute I can get.

The wetsuit provided a significant amount of buoyancy, so free diving was difficult, but I was happy with the tradeoff.

Wetsuit Sizing Made Easy

Getting the correct fit can feel like a stressful endeavor when you are staring at a chart loaded with columns and numbers. BARE’s sizing instructions are broken down into clear and easy-to-follow steps. I double-checked my numbers and admittedly crossed my fingers, and the fit was right on. (For context, I’m 139 pounds, 5’7” and wear a size 8.)

The only thing I regret is not adding the wetsuit to my collection sooner.
