Jet lag is a constant for me as I travel internationally much of the time and find myself lying awake in the middle of the night. I am always eager to try new products, and the Illumy Sleep and Wake Mask looks very interesting.

To start, it is lightweight and very comfortable to wear thanks to soft cushioning around your eyes although I probably wouldn’t use it on a plane as I tend to get warm on long flights.
This mask covers your eyes and a large portion of your face with a soft fabric coating. It is very comfortable, but since I get warm wearing very thin eye masks, this will work better somewhere you can control the temperature (like your hotel room).
I used it recently on a trip to Asia. The mask has two small screens inside that use the power of natural light to gently wake you up so that you are not interrupted in the middle of a REM sleep cycle abruptly by an alarm.
It switches from a gradual blue light to a natural white light when it’s time to wake up (you sync it with an app to set the desired time).
When you first put it on, a light sunset illumination slowly lulls you to sleep and eventually turns dark to signal to your body that you are sleeping at a natural time. The mask is washable thanks to its soft fabric, and it comes in a handy travel case.
Another cool feature is that you can use it to set to your home time zone even before you get back so that you can begin to get back on track for when you arrive.

If astronauts at the international space station use this for sound sleep, then you know it’s good. It retails for $75 on the Illumy site.
