Let’s say that you anticipate your vacation will include more than a few adult beverages. That’s cool—it’s your vacation, and you deserve to chill out how you like, as long as you do it legally.

But let’s also say that you plan to enjoy at least some of those beverages al fresco, and toting them in a grocery bag isn’t the best way to keep them safe or cold.

So when you’re packing that carry-on backpack, you might consider making it the Dakine Party Pack.

The 28-liter pack contains a large capacity insulated cooler with zippered mesh pockets for ice packs. There are two access points to the cooler, so you can either open the entire thing, or just slide a bottle (or can) out when you need it.

The upper pack holds party essentials (like food) and other gear, and has two external koozies, so you can tote beverages on the outside—of just use the koozies when you’ve propped the bag next to your picnic site.

The shoulder straps are comfortably padded and breathable, and a sternum strap is included for more comfort in carrying those heavy beverages. On one shoulder strap is an extra koozie (for on-the-go beverages), and on the other is a stealth bottle opener that pulls out of a concealed sleeve.

A fleece-lined pocket for your sunglasses is at the top of the pack, and at the bottom are external straps to hold a blanket, yoga mat, whatever you require to make your vacation relaxation comfortable.

This isn’t your standard travel backpack, with a padded sleeve for electronics (although, you could use the cooler compartment if you stow the laptop diagonally) and tons of organizer pockets. But I’ve been able to make it work on a variety of trips.

Remember, if you’re using the Party Pack as a carry-on, you’re limited to a quart-sized bag of liquid containers no larger than 3.4 ounces each. Best buy your booze in your destination. If you’re driving, no worries.

The Dakine Party Pack comes in two colors: tabor (black) and painted palm (light blue with charcoal palm design). It lists for $70 on the Dakine site, and is also available at Amazon, although the retailer labels it as Men’s Party Pack, which might imply that men could carry the booze, but certainly doesn’t mean women can’t use the pack.
