The Deuter XV 3 is unique in its adjustable and removable straps. The shoulder straps are adjustable at the top and can be cinched down at the base of the strap. Deuter XV 3 comes with removable and adjustable chest and waist straps. Neither the chest or waist straps provide additional storage but you can purchase ones that do. Both can easily be stored in the front pocket during travel or for days you may encounter rain and wind and need to have the bag closer to your body. The front pocket can easily store your helmet when not in use.

The shoulder straps have firm foam for cushioning and a nice S-shape for comfort. There is a small daisy chain for the chest straps on the shoulder straps but no additional attachment points for water bottles or gear.Deuter XV 3

Inside Features

In the large zippered compartment, the Deuter XV 3 has a padded laptop pouch and a medium zippered pouch attached to the top. This pouch is not padded and would be best for smaller items like wallets, keys, chapstick, etc. I love that this pocket is integrated into the seams of the bag. It means that it won’t move around on you and bunch or get in your way when you are trying to access other items in the main compartment.

The interior can easily hold a weekend’s worth of clothing, additional hiking gear or use it to carry your beach essentials just in case your luggage gets lost in tight connections.

The interior pockets are great for your laptop- up to 15.6”, and is heavily padded so you won’t feel it against your back while on the bike or trail.

A smaller pocket is cloth lined and would be best for phones, tablets or reading devices.

Final Thoughts

The Deuter XV 3 is technical for being a commuter bag. It could easily be your go-to day pack for your next adventure and then converted over to your daily laptop bag. The reinforced bottom ensures your gear stays safe and dry while the exterior fabric is easily wiped down.

We would suggest this bag for the outdoors enthusiast, college student or the city bike commuter. I wish there was more reflective details for bike riding on the outside. You can easily add your own with an attachable light or reflective strips.
