If there’s a summer uniform, it includes shorts. They’re comfortable, let you enjoy the warmth of the sun, and are equally great for adventure and lounging. Luckily, we don’t have to wait for summer to wear them.
Patagonia has updated the brand’s classic Women’s Baggies Shorts, and I’ve just added a pair to my default travel wardrobe. The shorts now have a higher rise, as well as a brushed-elastic waistband with simplified stitching and a draw cord for a customizable fit.
The fabric is made of 100% recycled nylon for durability, with a PFC-free durable water repellent (DWR) finish that sheds light moisture. The body fabric contains NetPlus, a material made from recycled fishing nets. In an effort to reduce one of the most harmful forms of plastic pollution in our oceans, Patagonia’s partner Bureo works directly with local fishers in South America, providing financial incentives to return end-of-life fishing nets to their collection program. Those nets are transformed and repurposed into yarn. This process helps protect wildlife and support local fishing communities.
The two pockets are lined with recycled polyester mesh for drainage, and the right pocket has an elastic key loop. The pockets are large enough to fit my iPhone 14 Pro Max, but without extra room.
The Women’s Baggies Shorts have a relaxed fit and come in a 2.5-inch and 5-inch inseam, depending on your personal preference for coverage. The shorts in the image are an example of the 5-inch inseam.
I’ve worn my Baggies while hiking, biking, paddling, boating, and just casually around town and at the beach. The fabric is soft and the fit is comfortable enough to wear all day.
The Women’s 5-inch Baggies Shorts come in a variety of solid colors and prints, and list for $59 on the Patagonia site. The 2.5-inch version also has a variety of solid colors and prints, and list for the same amount on the site.
