Backcountry

The reputable e-retailer Backcountry.com launched its own line of apparel and gear after twenty-two years of business. Their brand will be expanding on to many products made by the online retailer as well as collaborating with a few popular brands like Flylow and Black Diamond.

Backcountry.com created quality cold-weather gear, for both men and women, in their fall line naming each piece after mountain regions within the Wasatch—home of the e-retailer. One of the popular pieces from the Women’s fall line, also available in men’s, is the Silver Fork 750 Down Jacket.

Silver Fork 750 Down Jacket

The Silver Fork 750 Down Jacket is a beauty! A massive perk—its warm! Though I am an outdoor enthusiast in all seasons, I am guilty of opting out of an adventure if I do not have the proper gear for warmth. This jacket was fashioned for just that. The premium goose down will keep you warm whether you are headed into town or hitting the ski hill. Though it is a 750-fill, it is extremely light weight and slim fitting. It has a high insulated neck line, hip length and treated with a water-resistant finish. The Silver Fork jacket has a fixed hood which could be unattractive for those in much colder weather intending to use this jacket as a layer beneath a shell. It was designed with two exterior zipper hand pockets as well as an internal chest zipper pocket that doubles as a stuff sack for compact storage—hello backcountry touring!

Things to Consider

I am very impressed with the quality of the Silver Fork 750 Down Jacket, the warmth-to-weight ratio as well as the compact storage element. I promote this jacket for any and everyone who enjoys outdoor adventures with a few recommendations. First and foremost, size up! I ordered a small, consistent with other jackets I own. The Silver Fork small fits more like an extra small. It is tight through the shoulder and armpit area and short in arm length. The torso of the jacket fits true to size. The down proof-ripstop shell is designed to prevent the insulation from coming out however, the first week that I wore the jacket I had some escaping feathers. After the initial “break-in” period, the shedding stopped.

The Silver Fork 750 Down Jacket sells for $270 on Backcountry.com and comes in four attractive colors: splatter grey, splatter black, colonial blue and tawny port. You can also find the same jacket in men’s styles.
