We’ve reviewed a number of Xero shoes here on Practical Travel Gear: for those who love a ‘barefoot’ feel, Xero shows are no-fuss, low-weight, and easy to pack for outdoor adventure and city travel alike.
Today, I’m back with the new Alpine (I reviewed the men’s version with my teenage son). For those of you who have loved Xero’s sandals and sneakers but need a full winter boot for when the weather turns, here you go!
The Alpine doesn’t look like a minimalist boot on the outside, but slip it on, and you can feel the comfort and the benefits of the natural movement possible with a ‘barefoot’ shoe. For when snow hits the ground, the Alpine is waterproof with an insulated polyester fleece lining. You get 200g insulation, rated to -25°/-32°C, and a men’s 9 weighs just 14.9 ounces each.
The thread is substantial for a minimalist show, providing great traction, and a flexible, non-elevated (zero-drop) sole lets your foot move naturally. The Alpine is made from 100 percent vegan-friendly materials and they’re comfortable to slip on and off. This makes them a natural choice for an apres-ski shoe, too.
Pick up a pair for $149 in men’s size 6.5 to 15 in a brown/sage color combination or black. It also comes in women’s for the same price. Size 5-11 in frost (light gray) or black. The faux fur at the top is a fun touch!
