It was love at first sight.

When I got my first glimpse of XTRATUF Legacy Boots with vibrant red octopuses on the liner print, I knew I needed a pair in life.

Xtratuf Salmon Sisters Women's Legacy Boot

XTRATUF boots are everywhere in Alaska. Folks swear by them when it comes to keeping their feet warm and dry. But you don’t have to live in Alaska to love these boots.

It was the collaboration with Salmon Sisters, a pair of fishers and sisters from Homer, Alaska, that initially got my attention, but it’s the comfort and versatility of the boots that won me over. Flexible, lightweight, and waterproof, I’ve worn them hiking in Newfoundland, splashing in waterfalls in Canada, and on an assortment of boats in Alaska.

The 15-inch Legacy boots take up more room in your suitcase than a typical pair of hiking boots, but I’ve found they’re more than worthy of making space. (Slide one boot inside the other to maximize packing space, or just wear them on the plane.)

In addition to the Octopus Legacy Boot, there’s the Tinned Fish Legacy Boot with a cheery, yellow liner, and the Sand Dollar Legacy Boot with a unique blue and gray color combination. Cost is $155 to $160; the collection is available for purchase from both XTRATUF and Salmon Sisters.
