With our kids finally big enough to handle some real adventure we decided to take on Zion National park this fall. Anyone that’s been to this amazing part of southern Utah knows that with the unreal sensory comes some of the hottest temperatures in the nation. I needed activewear that could handle 5 days of hiking, scrambling, and wading.
Luckily Western Rise was nice enough to send me their Session Tee and Movement shorts from their Active Collection. If you don’t know Western Rise you need to check them out, their mission is to Honor the thinkers, innovators, adventurers, fathers partners, and friends and to elevate their lives. It’s a bold promise but having pushed their product to the edge I can say these are some of the best activewear clothes I have ever worn.
SESSION TEE
This lightweight, odor-resistant tee is made from a micro-mesh that is water-resistant and breathable. Made from Japanese Deltapeak™ micro mesh and Merino wool this great-looking shirt fit great and handled everything I threw at it. Even when temperatures hit 106 the Session helped keep me from overheating.
More than a simple mesh shirt the Merino wool blend held up, even after 5 days of hiking it still didn’t stink. A quick rinse in the sink each evening to rinse off the dust and I was good to go.
MOVEMENT SHORT
To complement the Session Tee Western Rise sent me a pair of their Movement Shorts. I have a really hard time finding activewear shorts that work for my frame. With a 7” inseam, these lightweight, stretchy, quick-drying shorts are good for anything you want to throw at them.
I’ve done everything in these shorts, they are great for hiking, in fact, I wore them almost every day in Zion. In addition, I’ve worn them to the gym, on runs in the hills behind my house, to the pool with the kids, and out to lunch with my wife.
They have a hidden side seam zippered pocket to keep my key and a card safe from falling out and is big enough for my phone (although I doubt it would fit some of the larger phones on the market). The pockets are all mesh so water sports are well within their capabilities as well.
Western Rise talks about their clothes being the only clothes you need. While I have to say I was skeptical I could have done our entire Zion adventure with just the Session Tee and Movement Shorts. We are planning a Mexico adventure soon and I plan to drastically reduce what i bring and my Western Rise will definitely make the cut.
