Upgrade Your Mountain Biking Gear with Patagonia Dirt Roamer Series

Gravity geeks enjoy dirt trails—from wide-open flow to hardcore single-track. And while one might imagine that any clothing item that can get dirty will do, performance pieces are ideal for wicking sweat, keeping chafing at bay, and staying comfortable. The Patagonia Dirt Roamer Series includes items that any MTB enthusiast can love, whether you dedicate your waking hours to scouting the best track or are an occasional rider.

I recently tested the women’s Dirt Roamer Bike Shorts, women’s Dirt Roamer Bike Liner Shorts, and Dirt Roamer Bike Waist Pack.

The newly redesigned women’s Dirt Roamer Bike Shorts are lightweight yet durable, made with highly breathable, stretchy fabric (4-ounce, 90-denier, 86-percent recycled polyester and 14 percent spandex) that wicks moisture and dries quickly. The curved waistband follows the natural shape of the hips, and the two-sided adjustable OppoSet waistband lets you fine-tune the fit to your preference. Low-bulk, no-stitch welded seams reduce weight and eliminate chafing on long rides. The two secure, zippered pockets on the outer thighs keep your essentials close, and the new pass-through access pairs with the thigh pockets on the Dirt Roamer Liner Shorts. The 12.5-inch inseam shorts come in solid black or rosehip, as well as snowpine: sound blue or kelp ka-pow: plume grey prints, and are available for $82.99 on the Patagonia site. A men’s version is also available.

The Dirt Roamer Bike Liner Shorts are made from 5.2-ounce, 79-percent recycled nylon and 21 percent spandex with wide-open power mesh panels for maximum breathability (5-ounce, 77-percent recycled nylon and 23 percent spandex mesh). The 8-inch inseam shorts include a 3D-engineered, 3-layer chamois pad designed for protection, breathability, comfort, and durability. The soft silicone leg gripper is injected into the fabric, eliminating slippage and chafing. As mentioned above, the two-drop-in thigh pockets are designed to pair with the pass-through pockets on the Dirt Roamer Bike Shorts. While the liner shorts are intended to pair with the Dirt Roamer Bike Shorts, they’re compatible with all Patagonia MTB overshorts. The shorts are available in black and list for $99 on the Patagonia site. A men’s version is also available.

The new, MTB-specific Dirt Roamer Bike Waist Pack is made of rugged 100-percent recycled nylon with a breathable Regulator air mesh through all contact points in the hip wrap. The 3-liter pack distributes weight between three zippered pockets and dual water-bottle holders, and there’s plenty of room for tools, valuables, and extra layers. The pack comes in steller blue and ink black, and lists for $69 on the Patagonia site.
