We all have that friend. The one who’s always cold, even when the sun is shining bright. Well, that’s me. I’m that friend. And my wardrobe reflects it.
I’m good at layering up, but handling multiple items of clothing is tricky when traveling, especially if you’re a carry-on only traveler. For a recent circumnavigation of Newfoundland — where savvy packing for all types of weather is crucial — I went searching for pants that could be worn as a base layer and look good on their own.
I found exactly what I wanted in Athleta’s Altitude Stash Tight in Polartec® Power Stretch® pants. From hiking in the rain, (I wore them with Patagonia Women’s Torrentshell 3L Pants many days.) to spotting wildlife from a ship deck, to sitting down for a meal, these leggings did it all.
Thick but not bulky, these tights are warm, breathable and move well with your body. They look much like leggings on the outside, but are soft and cozy on the inside. The waistband is wide with an internal drawstring. Side stash pockets are generous and perfect for holding a cell phone, while the back zip pocket offers more security for items like money, keys and ID cards.
Lightweight and easy to roll, the tights are easy to travel with as they don’t take up much room in a suitcase. I’m thinking I may need to add another color to my collection.
Athleta’s Altitude Stash Tight in Polartec® Power Stretch® pants are available in four colors: spiced cabernet, hematite grey, navy, and black. Cost is $119 on Athleta’s website.
