A blanket for travel? Absolutely! I’ve found that lightweight, down or down-alternative blankets have become go-to essentials for me and my family when we travel. What do we use them for? Let’s see:
- 20D Ripstop Nylon With DWR Shield.
- Synthetic Insulation.
- Provide Optimal Warmth In A Wide Variety Of Conditions And Climates.
- camping
- day trip picnics
- sporting events
- road trip emergencies
- ski days
We’ve tried out several down blankets, and Rumpl has risen to the top of the pack. The original Rumpl puffy blanket is made of 20D ripstop nylon with DWR with 3D hollow fiber synthetic insulation and comes in four sizes: junior, throw, one-person, or two-person (30″x40″-88″x84″). They come in four vibrant, jewel-tone colors, and all ship with their own stuff sack.
Not only is the original puffy incredibly warm, but it’s lightweight and so easy to pack.
We feel strongly that families should always carry an emergency box or bag in their car when road tripping, just in case of a snowstorm, traffic jam, or natural disaster that might necessitate staying overnight in your car.
In it, we always pack some extra water and food, plus sources of heat, including our Rumpl.
Of course, emergencies are luckily rare, so we grab our Rumpl out of the box for kids to cuddle up to watch a movie in the car, for snuggling in a hammock at our campsite, or for sleeping under the stars in summer.
It stays in our back seat of the car all year round, actually, to keep us warm at sporting events and outdoor concerts.
It’s easy to spot clean the Rumpl, and it’s actually machine washable. It would also be great to pack for a train trip overnight, or even a sleepover camp for the kids. Our Rumpl is one of our most versatile travel gear items.

In addition to the original Rumpl, you can opt for a down Rumpl or a fleece Rumpl. The originals start at $65 for a junior size to $199 for a double, and the down version comes in only one-person or two-person for $199 or $299. While certainly more expensive, the down versions do pack down smaller.
