Even though a smaller portion of my travel includes staying in remote places or camping, I always take along a small light source on my trips. Hotel rooms sometimes have burned out lights and staff doesn’t always have the ability to fix them immediately. I sometimes want to venture out at night beyond places streetlights cover. One never knows what opportunities or emergencies will arise, and I may not always be able to count on my flashlight app.
Lately, I’ve been packing along my BioLite AlpenGlow Mini. It’s small, bright, rechargeable, super easy to use, perfect to set up, and it’s the perfect blend of fun and function around the campsite, or even at home. The tiny light fits right in the palm of your hand, and is only about 2 inches high by 3 inches wide and weighs only 98 grams.
The light puts out an impressive 150 Lumens, using BioLite ChromaReal LEDs. ChromaReal means that you’ll see accurate colors around you in low-light conditions. It’s dimmable, with 40 hours of run time on the low setting, and 5 hours of run time on the high setting. The main button also controls the lock function, as well as all of the four lighting modes: white lantern, single color, single color cycle, and horizon (a blend of hues that you can speed up to party or slow down to calm and soothe).
On the back of the light, there’s a bungee cord you can use to hand the light on hooks and tent loops. But you can also use it to wrap around poles and branches, making it possible to add area lighting just about anywhere.
Alpenglow Mini is IPX4 rated, meaning that you can leave it out in the rain, it’s been drop-tested from 1 meter, and that bungee cord on the back was stretch-tested more than 5,000 times to ensure a long life of repeated use.
