Winter has been a crazy one here in Idaho. From 18 degree days to 45-55 degrees the next, it’s been a bear to bring the right gear with. Artilect has two new offerings for your head this season and they play well with manic weather.
Unisex Walrus Beanie
The Unisex Walrus Beanie from Artilect is a waffle-knit Nuyarn merino that will put all those beanies on Instagram to shame. With the iconic shape of fashion forward beanies, the Walrus will ensure your head stays warm without weighing you down. The superior Bluesign 250GSM Nuyarn merino offers warmth without the weight of its competitors.
The unique waffle weave dries 5 times faster and can be worn under your helmet while enjoying the outdoors. The waffle weave makes the Walrus feel softer than I would have expected. I am not the world’s biggest fan of wool, but this beanie is a winner in my book. With the natural temperature regulating properties of wool, I can wear this beanie all day long without becoming itchy or smelling like I just snowshoed 5 miles. It’s great under your helmet or on it’s own if your outing doesn’t require protective gear.
The Unisex Walrus Beanie comes in 4 colors and retails for $40.
Darkhorse Skully Beanie
Coming in a little slimmer and trimmer from Artilect is the new Darkhorse Skully Beanie. Constructed from the same soft but warm Superior Bluesign 185GSM Nuyarn merino, the superfine 10 micron Australian merino Wool stands up against the weather.
The stretch of the Darkhorse is really nice as it is a Unisex piece but more importantly, the recovery of the fabric after a quick hand wash makes it a piece that we keep coming back to. The helmet-friendly design makes it great for those spring days in Idaho when the clouds hang around in the morning but by noon the sun has broken through and you can leave your jacket in the car.
Flatlock seams keeps the Darkhorse Skully comfortable all day. I like that I can wear the Darkhorse Skully without getting hat hair and even when I throw my long hair up into a braid or bun underneath, it doesn’t look like I just woke up.
This is a great option for cycling, snowshoeing, ice skating and running.
The Darkhorse Skully comes in 8 colors and retails for $35.
