Now that it’s spring, it’s time to think about keeping your food and drink cold on your adventures, because unless you’re traveling to visit glaciers and remaining snow stashes, you can’t assume that your lunch will stay chilled.

Unless your hard cooler has wheels and you’re transporting it over level terrain, a soft cooler is much easier to haul around. But some of the soft coolers have burly zippers that grab at your arm when you’re reaching inside, which is no fun.

Check out the OtterBox Trooper LT 30 Soft Cooler, which won’t do that.

The cooler is made of durable TPU coated nylon (with premium grade thermal insulation) that’s water, puncture, UV, and chemical resistant. A heavy-duty base covers the bottom of the cooler to help resist abrasion. If you decide to boat with it, the cooler is rated IP-65 to protest against waves and rapids.

The top of the Trooper has a compound latch for easy one-handed opening, and the wide-mount opening won’t scrape your arm when you reach to grab a beer (or anything, but my coolers usually have beer, so that’s how I tested it).

An exterior water-resistant pocket lets you store additional gear, and you can customize the external mounting system with accessories, like a bottle opener, and a clip for other small tools.

The Trooper has a 2-inch-wide shoulder straps (in backpack form) to make it easy to carry around, even loaded down. So toss in those beers, sandwiches, and pounds of ice. You can handle it.

The OtterBox Trooper LT 30 Soft Cooler comes in hazy harbor (gray) and alpine ascent (green), and lists for $299.99 on the OtterBox site. A new color, forest edge (Realtree), is coming soon and will list for $349.99.
