I’m always looking for the most comfortable and versatile travel shoes. You know the ones: You can wear them on the street and in the restaurant, they’re easy and quick to take off and on (for those TSA checks and on the plane), you can wear them all day without feeling like you wore them all day, and they look good.
While I can tend to default to slippers (aka flip-flops) for more casual travel, I can’t wear them everywhere. When I can’t, I like to travel with my OluKai Pehuea Leather shoes.
My absolute favorite thing about these shoes is also present in some of OluKai’s other styles—the drop-in heel. Having the choice to either have my heel contained in the shoe, or to wear it as if it’s a slide-in shoe, is something I love.
I may still groan when I have to take my shoes off in the TSA line (but not when I have TSA Pre!), but at least they come off quickly, and I can put them back on without having to sit down or bend down to do it.
The non-marking rubber outsole will keep you from marking up those lovely hotel lobby floors, as well as your floors back home. The dual-density PU footbed has a moisture-wicking microfiber lining, which is helpful when you’re wearing the shoes all day for days in a row.
And you can remove the footbed easily for washing when you need to. The footbed also has a softer top with extra cushion, and good arch support.
These are the shoes I need in a few colors, so I’m not devastated when I wear one pair out.
The OluKai Pehuea Leather shoes come in two versions: with a turtle shell-inspired design and texture (honu is Hawaiian for turtle), or with a smooth texture. Available styles and colors are: dark java honu/dark java, black honu/black, clay honu/clay, trench blue honu/trench blue, bronze/dark java, pewter/charcoal.
