Practical Travel Gear hasn’t review Gregory Backpacks in a while and we are so excited to bring you the redesigned DEVA 60L.

Gregory DEVA 60L

First thing first, the fit. Be sure you take accurate measurements and then have someone else measure for you. The DEVA frames are notorious for running a little big. I am 5’6” and about 140lbs and ordered an XS and it fits just right.

The Response A3 system is what gives the DEVA 60L its great suspension. The A3 (which stands for Auto Angle Adjust) contours to your personal anatomy and allows for better balance and load transfer from your pack. I was very impressed with the articulating points and how well the hipbelt moved with every step. The A3 system definitely aided in making our backpacking trip more enjoyable because I wasn’t fighting the backpack.

New For 2018

The DEVA had a little work done over the last year, and like many celebrities she looks better than ever!

  • DEVA Back panel now breathes better for less heat build up
  • Rain cover is now stowed under the top panel
  • Front zippered pockets
  • Harness and hip belt dry faster
  • 210-denier nylon is used in the construction for added strength

Quick swap components on the DEVA 60L hipbelt are a life saver for me. You can easily store your phone in the zippered secured pocket and the arsenal of lip balm I travel with. You can easily keep gum, energy chews or various treasures your kids find in the pockets as well.

Pre Curved Hipbelt and compartments

The quick swap components curved with the precurved hip belt for added comfort. The best part? These pockets are covered in weathershield for water resistance.

The frame of the DEVA is a strong alloy frame that is covered in a breathable matrix. We lovingly call this the Viper as it my boys think the back of the back looks like the snake’s head. Fear not though my fellow travelers, the “Viper” back panel mesh is here to comfort and conform not cause injury.

One of my favorite features of a backpack is the ability to remove the brain or another sack from the body and have a day back. In the DEVA 60L, the hydration sleeve can easily be removed and used as a day pack. Drawstring closure at the top makes it water resistant but if there’s a downpour, water is going to get in. Daisy chains are located on the sidekick to attach additional gear or solar charging stations while you play in the sun.

The same attachments for a solar charger can be found on the main body. There are 4 top-pocket lash points that make for a great attachment point. Check out our favorite chargers HERE.

The sleeping bag compartment on the bottom of the DEVA allows you to access your bag quickly in case you make it to camp late. The bottom flap of the DEVA is constructed of double layered foam for durability and additional gear protection.

My Favorite Feature

The full body front access of the bag is the best! As a busy mom and professional, there are times where I become forgetful or second guess what I have packed. Before we even leave for a trip, I can lay the bag down and open the front compartment and see everything. Then, when you arrive to camp, our favorite Honcho Poncho can be accessed and the campfire can begin!

Mesh Pockets are Everywhere!

The mesh pockets on the front make it easy to slam in the additional gear I am grabbing as we walk out the front door… because, just in case. It also fits additional shoes, hydration bottles, hiking poles, camera gear (you don’t travel with a tripod??).

Final Thoughts

The DEVA 60L by Gregory is an impressive bag and I haven’t even gone into everything it has to offer! The DEVA is available in 3 bright and beautiful colors: Antigua Green, Nocturne Blue, Plum Red.
