We often consider duffels as simple methods of getting our gear from one place to another. But not all duffels are created equal.
Some are far too bulky and awkward to be effective in using as a good traveling bag. Want one that’s the opposite? Check out the Granite Gear 36-inch Packable Duffel.
One of the things I’ve liked about this duffel is that it comes in a compact carrying case. After the duffel is removed, the case can be used as a small separate case—one that can carry your toiletries, charging cables, or even technical gear for an adventurous trip.
The case can be attached to any of the duffel’s many MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) lash points, or just tossed into the duffel’s main compartment.
The bag is made from weather-resistant Taurpalite, to keep your gear protected against the elements.
So pack all your items inside without worry, and actually see where it is, with the U-shaped zippered main compartment that has a zippered storm flap. The duffel also has a zippered tricot-lined pocket for smaller, valuable items.
Carry the duffel one of a few ways: either by the reinforced duffel handle straps, by the adjustable shoulder strap (which is removable), or by the handle wrap that doubles as padded backpack straps. The bag also has multiple webbing haul handles.
I’ve used this bag as an extra “just in case” piece on my travels, as an extra-gear beach bag, and as straight-up luggage. I’m glad I have it in my arsenal.
The Granite Gear 36-inch Packable Duffel comes in basalt (blue-gray), black, fern and red rock, and lists for $79.99 on the Granite Gear site.
It’s also available at Amazon. Need a smaller size? Granite Gear makes Packable Duffels in 20-inch, 24-inch, and 30-inch sizes, as well.
