I have recently returned from a small section hike of the CDT and used my Zenbivy Core Bed for 4 nights of restful sleep. Leave the Bag O’chips at Home
My biggest gripe with sleeping pads and mattresses is the noise. Some companies can make beautiful mattress in all the newest fabrics and colors but it sounds like you are sleeping on a bag of chips all night. 2 in 1 Design
While watching my husband hyperventilate as he blows up his air mattress, it was just me and my girl, Mother Nature, blowing up the Flex 3D Mattress at a good steady pace that still allowed for heckling. The mattress comes with a storage bag that also doubles as an inflation sack making inflation a breeze (…or a squeeze?). Once inflated to my desired firmness, it was just a couple more minutes of quilt attachment and my bed away from home would be setup and ready to go for the next couple of nights.
Backpacking vs Camping
We debated taking the Flex Mattress with on our backpacking trip because it’s *almost* light enough to carry and we were covering around 25 miles. It came down to food space in our packs or I think it would have made the cut. Not knowing the exact terrain we would have for sleeping, the thicker pad seemed ideal for restful nights. I also really love that there is no texture to pad for “additional comfort”. It’s just one smooth, comfortable bed away from home.
As for camping, it’s real purpose, you can’t get much better. A compact mattress with it’s own inflation sack and the Zenbivy quilt and sheet system makes for a most enjoyable time. The exclusive 4 way stretch to the fabric of the Flex Mattress really lets your body sleep the way you need to. I’m a side sleeper so finding a mattress that will lie flat while I turn and move around has been difficult in the past. Fortunately my search for the Prince Charming of camping mats is over.
Easy Setup and Take Down
Due to the easy to use valves, inflation sack and color coordinated loops and hooks on all sleep systems, all of our Zenbivy systems have been so easy to set up. Even the teenager is quick to assist on tent set up.
With the addition of the dual use storage bag and reversible high speed valves, we can have the Flex 3D Camping Mattress deflated and rolled up ready to go in less than 3 minutes. It takes up minimal room in our gear locker and I know the quality of the manufacturing will keep it in use for many trips to come.
