Plastic products are everywhere. That’s partly because there seems to be no end to their use, and also because we like to save money. But plastic also comes with a lot of problems: health impacts, lack of ability to break down (thus contributing to waste and pollution issues), and it’s threatening our oceans and wildlife.
But living without plastic can be a challenge if you’re not aware of good substitutes. I’ve been wrapping my meals and leftovers in Meli Wraps for the past few years, even when I’m bringing snacks on the plane, and they’ve changed me.
Meli Wraps are made with 100% Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified organic cotton and Hawaiian beeswax. The beeswax mixture also includes, tree resin, jojoba oil, and coconut oil. The prints are bright and fun, and you can use them for leftovers, snacks, and lunches—keeping the planet free from plastic waste.
Use them by warming your hands and molding the wrap around your dish or food. With a little pressure, the wraps will stick to themselves and create a seal. You can also shape the wraps into snack packs, cups, envelopes, and bowls. Once you place them in the refrigerator, the wrap will firm up. Don’t use the wraps with raw meats or hot foods, and definitely don’t place them in the dishwasher or oven.
The beeswax coating makes the wrap easy to clean. Just wipe it down using your hands or a soft sponge with a mild detergent under cool running water. Air dry the wrap and reuse.
Each beeswax food wrap lasts for about 150 washes and can replace several rolls of plastic wrap and hundreds of sandwich bags.
Meli Wraps Beeswax Food Wraps come in three sizes: small (7 x 7 inches), medium (10 x 10 inches), and large (10 x 16 inches). There are a variety of prints you can choose: sharky shark, pineapple, tropical papaya, fall bloom, avocado, dragonfruit (pictured), fern print, and kalo print. There are even bulk rolls available, so you can cut your own size of wrap. All are available on the Meli Wraps site.
