Autumn can be a tricky time of year to pack well for travel. You know you need layers, but you’re loathe to bring too bulky of jackets and outerwear, knowing you’ll be shedding most before the day’s end.

In the past, I’ve reviewed winter layers from Craghoppers, but this fall, we’ve been testing out some mid-layer jackets for men and women.

Craghoppers Henrik jacket: The Henrik is a men’s fleece that doesn’t look like a fleece. It’s a bomber jacket-style full-zip jacket that’s thin enough to be used in moderate temperatures, but slim-fitting enough to be worn as a layering piece as it gets colder.

My husband has been wearing the Henrik throughout Oregon this fall, loving the change from his more ‘sporty’ fleece wear. Instead of looking like he’s about to go on a hike, he says he looks more urban, and at work, more professional. Win-win!

The Henrik comes in Dark Moss or Storm Navy, both solid color choices that will go with everything.

You get ribbed hems and cuffs, and an exposed metal zipper that’s substantial enough to easily grab, even when wearing light gloves. The Henrik comes in sizes small through XXL, and retails for about $60. We found it on Amazon for a few bucks less.

Craghoppers Seline half zip: For women, the Seline half-zip is a more traditional fleece layer, made of extremely light microfleece.

It pulls double-duty as a cover up in the fall that will transition to a mid-layer during a ski or snowshoe day in the winter, and it packs down extremely small, since it’s thin.

I’ve fit it in my day pack and in my tote for airplane travel, without taking up much more room than my scarf. The feel of the Seline is almost velvety, and you get nice details included, like a sunglass/glass wipe corner.

The Seline comes in a variety of colors, size size 8-20. Some colors have contrast stitching, which is a nice touch, and the price is very reasonable at $45 on the Craghoppers site.

Affordable pricing is something I really appreciate about Craghoppers…I know I can find quality wear that doesn’t skimp on the little details, and their clothing won’t be out of reach.
