A lot of outdoorsy jackets look just like outdoorsy jackets. Sure, truth in advertising and all that, but sometimes you want an outdoorsy jacket that performs just like one, but perhaps looks a little cooler—like you could wear it out to the bar at night and not look like you just rolled in from a day-long hike.
It that’s a requirement for you, check out the Cotopaxi Kusa Bomber Jacket.
One of the biggest things to note about this jacket isn’t something you can see: the insulation is llama fleece. Llama fiber is woven with polyester filament, which results in a distinct insulating layer that provides warmth in a variety of conditions.
It traps warm air, insulates when wet, and creates a natural wind block in cold weather. The fiber is naturally hypoallergenic, too, which is a plus.
The outside part of the jacket consists of 20D ripstop nylon, treated with a DWR finish. The modern take on the classic flight jacket style includes ribbed details at the collar, cuffs and hem—and the jacket is reversible, so you can bring it on a trip and not feel like you’re wearing the same old jacket every single day.
Two hand pockets and a chest pocket are zippered, so you can rest assured your small valuable items like phone, money, and keys won’t just jump out of your pockets. Two hand pockets on the reverse side don’t have zippers, so now you know which side to use if you want extra security.
The only thing to watch out for with this jacket is that the outer fabric is so lightweight that you might just catch it in the zipper if you’re not paying attention. My husband’s done it a few times with his jacket, but has had no problem gently pulling the fabric out of the zipper when it happens.
The Cotopaxi Men’s Kusa Bomber Jacket is available in copper/mist, racing red/Moroccan blue, and phantom/raven (which is pretty much all black), and regularly lists for $189.95 on the Cotopaxi site. Right now, the jacket is on sale for $129.95 on the site. It’s also available at Amazon.
