Many people who travel a lot choose an essential wardrobe of neutral colors that can mix and match, along with a few bonus pops of color and accessories to keep those neutral colors from being merely basic. We all have our neutral of choice—mine is black, but others may choose gray, blue, brown, or white.
It’s also possible to blend those neutral colors in smart ways, to extend their ability in making a great travel wardrobe. Recently, Carve Designs introduced the brand’s new spring color, rum. A warm, sun-kissed hue that reminds me of an aged rum in a glass, the color has graced some of Carve’s adventure-ready essentials. Because the hue looks great with both black and white, I’ve checked out a couple of pieces that work well with my existing wardrobe.
I’m a big fan of tunics, so the Taylor Linen Tunic made perfect sense for my preference to incorporate a relaxed, long-sleeved look that goes over tanks and tees, and even swimsuits. The summer staple has a shirttail hem and a slightly off-shoulder fit. Throw it on to explore a new-to-you city or enjoy a lunch in the sunshine. It comes in a linen/tencel blend (rum chambray, blue chambray, cloud chambray) for $76, signature gauze (birch lurex, hot pink lurex, lagoon stripe) for $72, and textured gauze (Navy, limeade) for $72.
I’ve paired the tunic with pants, shorts, and swimsuits, but especially like the look of it paired with another Carve piece: the Suki Linen Short. The high-rise, relaxed shorts have front waist pleats, a button and zipper closure, and a flat front waistband with elastic back. The linen is thin and breathable, and ideal for casual summer days out on the trail or in town. It comes in the same linen/tencel blend as the Taylor Linen Tunic (rum chambray, blue chambray, cloud chambray) for $74.
