One thing I always bring on my travels is moisturizer. So many things (air travel, alcohol, dry climates) can mess with your skin, that I want to plan in advance to combat their effects. But in my nearly endless efforts to avoid taking more than the allowed amount of liquids in my carry-on bag, I keep trying to find solid solutions.
I’m a huge fan of Sustainabar, a brand with a mission to convince people to replace bottles with bars. Their long-lasting, concentrated bars have been a feature in my house for years—from dish soap to body soap, shampoo to conditioner, facial soap to dog shampoo. The brand also used packaging materials that are 100% recyclable/compostable, including recycled newspapers, junk mail, and report cards.
By far, my favorite item is the Sustainabar Cocoa Butter Lotion Bar. It’s made from organic, natural ingredients (organic cocoa butter; organic avocado, apricot, and sunflower oils; and essential oils) that leave your skin nourished. Keep the bar at room temperature (but not too hot), and it melts on contact with warm skin, absorbing quickly and without leaving residue.
The bar contains no water or wax, and a little goes a long way. Just a couple of swipes are all you need.
Note that lotion bars are shipped when you buy them, and if you live in a hot climate, that bar may be melted when you get it. It’s best to plan ahead. Also, avoid leaving your lotion bar in hot cars or windows.
The Cocoa Butter Lotion Bar comes in a variety of scents: lavender, lavender and orange, frankincense, honey, natural cocoa butter, and unscented. It lists for $8 on the Sustainabar site. Add the $5 lotion tin to keep your bar lint-free in your bag.
The Sustainabar Cocoa Butter Lotion Bar sounds like the perfect way to keep your skin nourished while traveling! Compact and effective, it’s a great addition to any skincare routine, especially on the go. I’ll definitely be bringing this on my next trip!
