First, this board is beautiful. Even the board bag it comes in is well constructed and can be pulled via the wheels or worn as a backpack. We traveled from the mainland to Honolulu, Oahu in January 2017 with a demo board from Red Paddle Co.
I am so pleased we brought this board with us as we could spend a day out on it and entertain our kids who love to SUP while peering into the waters for sea creatures and using the board as a floating dock.
Let the journey begin
First, let me begin with our trouble finding a location to SUP in Honolulu the week we spent there. On our first attempt to take the board out, the hotel had tested the water and closed the beach down due to an increase in algae. Ugh.
Our second attempt was a couple days later as we headed to the North Shore of Oahu. We were welcomed by 20-25 foot waves and closed beaches due to the dangerous conditions. Really?!? As the old adage goes, third time is a charm.
For our third attempt, we were setup and ready to ride the 10’6 Ride MSL within 15 minutes. Inflating the board was incredibly easy with the Titan pump. This pump is brilliant! The dual cylinder system streamlines inflation and we weren’t immediately exhausted and looking for a margarita and a break.
I wish all boards came equipped with a pump as efficient as the Titan pump. Fortunately, you can acquire a Titan pump from Red Paddle Co for around 12 resort priced margaritas (~$150).
The 32”wide board was really stable on our maiden voyage and easy to maneuver thru the beautiful teal waters of Hawaii. The 10’6 Ride board is constructed with a MSL fusion composite and airtight coating. This technique allows for consistency in the construction and lightens the load by approximately 5 pounds.
- 2 Ways To Play: Bluetooth or Micro SD.
- High Definition Sound.
- IPX4 Waterproof Speaker.
The handle of the paddle was comfortable and the paddle easy to assemble. It is so easy to assemble, we had the kids do it. I have small hands even for a female and could easy grasp the handle and paddle successfully.
Less is more
I appreciated the position of the grip on the board and can’t speak enough to the lack of detail in the grip which allows so much versatility in the use of this board. Other boards we have trialed have stunning designs in the grip material on their boards. While aesthetically pleasing to the eye, it can be frustrating to the rider’s foot placement.
Even performing yoga poses on the 10’6 Ride MSL was a breeze on this board as there was able space to land my feet and hands. With a weight limit of 220 pounds, the Ride easily allows for one or two riders.
The attached fins made for an easier setup as we weren’t looking for a screwdriver for installation. However, they made me nervous to repack. I was very concerned we were going to break all three of them. Provided in the Red Paddle Co Backpack are three inflated ‘water wings’ to help insure the fins were safe during transport.
Red Paddle Co has a patented fin system called iFin. If the fins were damaged, they can easily be repaired with warm water and some TLC as you reshape them. You can find the iFin system on most boards in the Red Paddle Co arsenal.
I appreciate the cargo tie-downs on the board for securing the dry bag and water bottles. It was very fun to have our iPhones in the dry bag while we blasted tunes from our Refuel 2in 1 Bluetooth Speaker Bottle.
After our time with the 2016 10’6 Ride MSL board we can safely recommend this board to you and your family. It is a great all around board with versatility and strength in construction. I would even bet you a margarita this board can outlast your minivan.
