I would recommend visiting a running store and having an employee look at your feet to give you a good idea of what category your feet fit in. If you have serious foot complications like extreme pronation, fallen arches, etc I would recommend visiting a foot doctor, as running shoes by themselves might not be enough. You could require orthotics, or even just simple strengthening exercises to get and keep you on your feet.'

Merrell just released some new shoes in thier Barefoot line that are aimed more at casual wear rather than running. I just ordered a pair of these: http://www.merrell.com/US/en-US/Product.mvc.aspx/28982M/69198/Mens/Barefoot-Life-Reach-Glove?dimensions=0

I plane to use them for both casual wear and for traveling.

Actually, the women's models are available on Amazon:

:)

Good review! I have never actually noticed that before, but when traveling I DO like that they can be compacted more than a stiff shoe.
