I’m always happy to talk about a travel-related company based in my beloved Colorado, and lilypond brightly colored bags are no exception. With a home base in the mountains of Dillon, just a couple of hours up the road from me, lilypond (yes, the trademarked logo is lowercase “l”) is actually an off shot of fishpond, which produces bags, gear and accessories for anglers and rugged outdoor enthusiasts. On the other hand, lilypond — with its feminine colors and whimsical accents — is all about styling for women.
The company makes backpacks, duffels, gym bags, shoulder bags, totes and carry-on luggage. I’ve been carrying around the Daybreak Shoulder Bag in recent weeks. This ultra-slim piece is meant to hold small items — like your sunglasses, wallet, lipstick, phone, tissues, phone and perhaps your passport or hotel key — while you’re on the go.
It might not replace a more all-purpose everyday purse (into which I typically also pack a full cosmetic bag of toiletries, notebook, multiple pens and sometimes a small water bottle), it’s ideal for bringing along on vacation because it’s thin and packs down well. This bag is designed to fit inside a larger tote you might bring to the beach or pool at your resort; or you’d also sling it across your body for sightseeing walks into town.
The Daybreak helps you remain organized, with three different zippered pockets. The durable bag is made of waterproof nylon fabric with a subtle checkerboard pattern that adds texture. On this bag, you can see just just a bit of the fun design in the webbing shoulder strap — the “Jacquard accent webbing” makes more of a statement in some other bags. The adjustable shoulder strap is extra long — extending from 14 to 27 inches, depending on how you might want to carry it. Dimensions are 10 inches tall by 11 inches wide, and just 3.5 inches deep when filled with items.
I absolutely love lilypond’s color palette; the Daybreak Shoulder Bag is shown above in Tarpon Blue, but other colors for this piece include a pretty celery green and a deeper blue, as well as more neutral shades of khaki and brown. Other bags in the lilypond collection come in bright orange, pink, turquoise and purple (that’s the Sunflower Tote in Hibiscus/Tangerine at right).
Purchase the $39 Daybreak Shoulder Bag on the lilypond website, or various online retailers like eBags.
