Keep Your Legs Cool: Review of the Laptop Desk Futura

By JohnG

lapdesk04On a few cold winter nights, my legs have been kept warm and toasty by my trusty laptop computer.  But during the blazing Texas summer, when temperatures soar past the century mark and even the armadillos are sweating, that’s not such a good thing.

The new Laptop Desk Futura from Lapworks, Inc. eliminates the scorched-legs syndrome.  This foldable plastic support for your portable computer really does work.

The Futura is the newest addition to Lapworks’ family of products.  The lightweight plastic support has ventilation slots to keep air circulating under your laptop and channel it away from your legs.  It also helps your computer run cooler by improving circulation.

This laptop desk weighs just 19 ounces, with rubber strips molded in to keep your computer from sliding.

It folds in half for easy carrying in most computer bags or backpacks.  Unfolded, it’s 21 inches long, 11 inches wide and just 5/8″ thick.

The Futura is ruggedly made of the same polycarbonate material used in football helmets.

This laptop desk is ideal for use in hotels and airports, as well as around the house or office.  The 21″ width is designed to give your legs enough room to spread out.

That’s too wide for most airline seats, but on airplanes it’s usually easier to use the meal tray as a support.

lapdesk03The Futura does one other trick.  Folded in half with a flip-up support, it can also be used as a stand on top of a desk.  This configuration really does improve the viewing and typing angles when using your lappy on a desktop.

Lapworks has done a lot of research on the ergonomics of using a laptop.  Besides cooling your legs, the Futura is  designed to help eliminate strain on your knees, shoulders, neck, back and arms.

The Futura is now offered in gray only.  But within the next few months, the company plans to make it available in a choice of bright, hand-painted colors.

Compared to other laptop accessories, the price is very reasonable—$29.95.

No more hot laps and a more comfortable way to use your laptop.  That sounds like a winner to me.
