iPad Sleeve Finds a New Use for Old Billboards

By JohnG

If you rushed out and bought an iPad anyway—ignoring my previous post about its dubious value to travelers—the least you can do is protect your expensive new toy from bumps and scratches. And one ecologically-friendly way to do that is with the Bill-Fold iPad Sleeve from Brenthaven.

Sure, there are plenty of iPad accessories trying to grab a piece of the market. But one thing that’s different about the Bill-Fold iPad Sleeve is the outer shell is made of 100 percent recycled billboard materials. That’s right, there is actually a use for old billboards.

Because of the materials involved, every Brenthaven Bill-Fold is different. A sample I received has a purple gradient of colors on the outside. Others come in a rainbow of colors.

The soft interior lining and rigid corners provide good protection. The two open ends of the sleeve can also be secured with the built-in hook-and-loop fasteners.

The Bill-Fold is American-made in Seattle and Brenthaven offers a lifetime guarantee. The price is $34.95 from the manufacturer’s website.

With Apple selling a reported two million iPads in the first two months since the tablet computer’s release, there’s a huge market for accessories. I’m still not convinced the iPad is a must-have for travelers. But if you couldn’t resist Apple’s marketing hype, getting the Brenthaven Bill-Fold iPad Sleeve can at least make you can feel better knowing that no trees were killed—only old billboards.
