With all the apps out there for the iPhone, a good car mount can come in very handy when traveling. But finding the right car mount for some of my mobile devices has usually been a bit of a challenge.
That problem is solved with the Xtand Go Windshield and Dashboard Car Mount made by Just Mobile. The Xtand Go securely holds the iPhone 3GS/3G so it can be used for navigation, hands-free calling and apps that make time on the road easier.
It can also be used with other smartphones, dedicated GPS units and more.
The Xtand Go includes an x-shaped bracket that securely holds the iPhone 3G or 3GS either vertically or horizontally. The mounting arm then attaches to a windshield suction cup or an adhesive mount that can be used on the dashboard. The bracket doesn’t get in the way of the iPhone’s side controls and dock connector.
I’m usually a little leery of suction-cup mounts after my GPS dropped off the windshield a few times. But I’m impressed with the Xtand Go’s solid grip.
Below the suction cup is a mount that turns a few times to attach it to the windshield. Then, the bracket and phone attach with a simple slide-and-click mount. The folding arm between the suction mount and bracket also extends and twists for perfect positioning.
The sturdy, lightweight design makes the Xtand Go easy to mount with just one hand.
Keep in mind that two states, California and Minnesota, don’t allow suction cups attached to the windshield while driving. So when driving in those states, or any time a dashboard mount is more convenient, the Xtand Go includes adhesive mounts to use instead of the windshield suction cup.
The glue-free “Go Button” can also be used in place of the “X” holder for other devices that are different sizes than the iPhone. It attaches to the back of the device and is slim enough to hardly be noticed when not mounted.
The Xtand Go retails for $39.99 and is available from Amazon, My Gear Store and other retailers.
The name, Xtand Go, isn’t the easiest to remember. But what you will remember is how well it performs to keep the iPhone or other devices just where you need them.
